Research and Climate-responsive design
Research
Research driving architecture. Through our involvement in academic research, institutional research and by initiating in-house research projects, we want to expand our knowledge and advance an innovative design approach. Since the start of archipelago, we have therefore created three dedicated research teams that conduct research projects as well as support our design process with research by design, sustainability studies and software development, producing award-winning studies and leading our projects to the forefront of sustainable architecture.

- Residential
- ICON VLAIO project using dynamic simulations of buildings under extreme shocks, especially heatwaves. Archipelago investigates the effect of passive design solutions.

Research- Mixed-use
- Sufficiency puts users, daylight and natural ventilation at the centre to optimise energy use, CO₂ and dynamic comfort in healthcare buildings.
Enough is more - sufficiency as a design strategy
Research- Care
- Hospital
- The Archipelago office in Leuven shows how mass, glazing, solar shading and natural ventilation make buildings more resilient to future heatwaves.
